The Artist in Residence (AKA The Neighbourhood Theatre or TNT) takes an interdisciplinary, “hands-on,” place-based approach to exploring many of the ethical and practical considerations facing artists and others wishing to work “in residence” with community partners. It’s a course about how theatre artists, oral historians, documentary media artists, community workers, and others interested in social innovation, animation and activism might meet and explore social change within Montreal neighbourhoods.

For the Fall 2016 term, the class is continuing our collaboration with the historic Atwater Library and Computer Centre and joining its work in Point St. Charles—a working class neighbourhood adjoining the Lachine Canal.  There, students are working as “embedded artists” with various organizations in order to explore social capacity building and innovative arts-based approaches to strengthening community.
